Periodic control of intermittent demand items: theory and empirical analysis

چکیده
Abstract In this paper we propose a modification to the standard forecasting, periodic order-up-tolevel inventory control approach to dealing with intermittent demand items, when the lead-time length is shorter than the average inter-demand interval. In particular, we develop an approach that relies upon the employment of separate estimates of the interdemand intervals and demand sizes, when demand occurs, directly for stock control purposes rather than first estimating mean demand and then feeding the results in the stock control procedure. The empirical performance of our approach is assessed by means of analysis on a large demand data set from the Royal Air Force (RAF, UK). Our works allows insights to be gained on the interactions between forecasting and stock control as well as on demand categorization related issues for forecasting and inventory management purposes.

A Multi-Periodic Multi-Product Inventory Control Problem with Discount: GA Optimization Algorithm
In this article, a finite horizon, multi product and multi period economic order quantity like seasonal items is considered where demand rate is deterministic and known but variable in each period. The order quantities of items come in batch sizes and the end of the period order quantity and, consequently, demand of customers are zero. In addition, storage space is constrained and the problem...
متن کاملAn aggregate-disaggregate intermittent demand approach (ADIDA) to forecasting: an empirical proposition and analysis
Intermittent demand patterns are characterised by infrequent demand arrivals coupled with variable demand sizes. Such patterns prevail in many industrial applications, including IT, automotive, aerospace and military. An intuitively appealing strategy to deal with such patterns from a forecasting perspective is to aggregate demand in lower-frequency ‘time buckets’ thereby reducing the presence ...
متن کاملBayesian Approach to Modelling of Quasi-periodic Intermittent Demand
The paper focuses on the stochastic modelling of the quasi-periodic intermittent demand patterns, which arise in the inventory management of the “slow moving items” such as service parts or high-priced capital goods. It is proposed a new stochastic model, which describes the demand patterns with essentially nonexponential distribution of the inter-arrival times. The model is based on generalize...
متن کاملUsing Theory of Constraints in Production Management and Scheduling (A Case Study)
In manufacturing institutes the only access way to maximum profit is identifying the production mix of the products based on the limitations such as policies and politics, demand and production processes. This study identifies the constraints of a tile-manufacturing company including constraints in its production and demand line using LINGO software version 15, and identifying production bottle...
